I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Singapore Management University. I received my Ph.D in political science from George Washington University in 2014 and my dissertation was awarded the Best Fieldwork award from by the American Political Science Association. I have a Master of International Affairs from UCSD (US) and a BA degree in communications from Dublin City University (Ireland). Before becoming an academic I worked as an Art Director for over 10 years in the US.

 

My research interests include political communications, elections, ethnic politics, protest, activism, and Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on Indonesia. I have published in international peer-reviewed political science and communications journals such as Political Communication, Comparative Political Studies, Journalism Studies, Party Politics and Democratization amongst others. Additionally, I have published a book with Oxford University Press (2024) on ethnic politics and election campaigns, focusing on the case of Indonesia.

 

I teach classes on politics, the media, elections, content analysis, and survey design.
